Kinja'd!!!5 Kinja'd!!! 14

I didn’t want to put this here. My last Gambler trip taught me I needed a fuel can, that 5.0 is a bit thirsty. I had planned on putting the can IN the trunk, but it takes up a lot of room and made accessing other things a pain. I don’t want to store it in the roof basket, a gas shower sounds bad. Keeping it away from the occupants seems good. Hanging it off the back bumper blocks the tail lights.   O ff the rear side make it the widest part on the car, out beyond the flares.   So, on the trunk it goes. Function > form this time.  Trunk still works.

Will the trunk stay open when the can  is full?

I assume not,  hence the bungee cord holding it up in the last photo.

I haven’t tested it, but the trunk does go to full lock.  Bungie cord is plan B :)

I think a handy pipe in the trunk might be a better solution. You never know when you’ll need a 36” pipe.

Four bolts through the trunk lid. #YOLO

Also in the rear pic you can kind of see a piece of heater hose I duct ta p ed to the can to support it towards the fill end.  Then I used a bunch of weatherstripping and other foam / tape products to make sure the can is in there tight and won’t rattle.

well there you go!  I was going to suggest rotopax, but it looks like its all said and done.

If I keep this thing I will probably go with a rotopax type setup, but I need something for this coming weekend and don’t have much issue drilling holes in the trunk (least invasive thing I’ve done to this poor car).

You aren’t planning on doing Washington Gambler this weekend are you? Looks like I’m going for it with a car I’m picking up this afternoon(which is an excellent idea I’m sure)

Awesome!!! I was going to suggest some kind of plan to find each other but then I realized I can probably find a lifted Mustang with a Martini livery.

My vehicle is a little bit too capable to really be ‘Gambler’ but I was looking for a trail beater anyway and.... well it is a 30-year-old Range Rover that I’ll have owned for less than 4 days haha
